As much is yet unknown about certain diseases and causes or are being researched, a genetic analysis is often recommended to the affected parents. In such examinations, it may be useful if genetic material from both children is available.
Nowadays, genetic material can be very easily stored. For this, a sample of skin is taken from the heel. It is not analysed without your consent but only stored.

To participate in studies such as the “Massively parallel sequencing for gene discovery in lethal fetal discovery” of the University of Basel requires that genetic material of both children is available. Most parents do not take this into consideration at the birth of their first star child and later have no access to it without genetic material.
